  • Services: Children's Medical Center of Dallas is a private, not-for-profit hospital. It is the only healthcare facility in Dallas that deals exclusively with a variety of diseases and disorders among children from birth to age 18.

CHIP: Children’s Health Insurance Program

  • Care covered by CHIP is offered at a number of providers.
  • Call toll-free 1-877-543-7669 (877-KIDS-NOW) Monday through Friday between 8 am and 8 pm Central Time (except federal holidays). If you have a speech and hearing impairment, please call 1-800-735-2988 (Relay Texas).

  • How to Apply: Apply for CHIP or Children's Medicaid over the phone (1-877-KIDS-NOW), by mail (Texas Health and Human Services Commission, P.O. Box 14200, Midland, Texas 79711-9901) or by fax 1-877-542-5951.   • Services: The Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) is designed for families who earn too much money to qualify for Medicaid, yet cannot afford to buy private insurance for their children. CHIP coverage provides eligible children with coverage for a full range of health services including regular checkups, immunizations, prescription drugs, lab tests, X-rays, hospital visits and more.

  • Services: Child Care (for all children, including children with special needs); Developmental screenings and equipment assessments; Occupational therapy: improving strength and fine motor skills, self-care skills, visual perception/motor skills, handwriting and sensory processing; Parent education and support: teach parents how to continue therapy at home and provide education and referral resources; Parent groups: educational workshops and support groups for parents; Physical therapy: assist patients in improving muscle strength, motor skills and balance; Social services: social workers provide referral services as well as child and family case management; Speech/language therapy: assist children with age-appropriate articulation, language and oral-motor feeding skills

East Dallas Health Center

  • Languages: English and Spanish. Translators are available for many other languages.  
  • How to apply: Children born at Parkland Hospital of Dallas are automatically registered into East Dallas Health Clinic’s system. To register other children, call 214-266-1010 (registration).
  • Cost of services: East Dallas Health Clinic requires patients to apply for Medicaid or CHIPS if they are not already covered by an insurance company. If Medicaid or CHIPS cannot cover them, their service bill will be determined through a sliding scale.

  • Services: Well child check ups, immunizations, sick visits, pharmacy, access to psychiatric care, as well as a nutritionist.

Family Resource Center

Homeless Outreach Medical Services (Homes Program)

  • Hours: Operator available to take calls from 8:30-4:30 Monday through Friday. Late Clinic hours are from 5:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. (via Homes Program’s mobile units).
  • Languages: English and Spanish. Translators are available for many other languages.
  • How to apply: Homes Program offers services to people on Medicare, Medicaid, or people who do not have insurance. Services are not provided to people with private insurance.
  • Cost of services: No cost
  • Services: A wide variety of services are offered on the mobile unit. The mobile unit travels to different homeless shelters and shelters for women and children, performing physical exams, giving immunizations, and supplying patients with emergent needs with referrals and waivers (which allow for no charge) for appointments at Parkland Hospital. The Homes Program also visits schools in the community. If the Homes Program cannot provide an individual the necessary care they need on the mobile unit, they supply the individual with a referral, an appointment with the appropriate medical facility and a waiver to allow the patient free care.

Low Birth Weight Development Center

  • Services: English as a second language (ESL), GED courses in Spanish, group counseling, parenting classes, art therapy, developmental programs for children ages 0-3 (based on individual needs). Program is specifically for mothers of low birth weight children.

  • Services and Programs: This home is a place for girls ages 10-17 to find refuge from abuse, neglect, and abandonment.  The transitional home serves women ages 18-24 who have limited economic and emotional support. Our Friends Place also offers parenting classes.
